A late-night fire at Greenbrook Adventure Park in Lakewood Ranch caused serious damage to the picnic pavilion, East Manatee Fire Rescue announced.

Firefighters first responded to the scene just after midnight early Wednesday following reports of smoke in the area, a press release said. When crews arrived, the nearly 6,000-square-foot park pavilion was on fire and part of the roof collapsed.

By 1:31 a.m., firefighters had extinguished the flames, according to a press release. It’s unclear if the fire was caused by any July 4 activity, such as fireworks or an unattended barbecue grill.

As of Wednesday afternoon, a cost estimate for the damage at the park, 13010 Adventure Place, Lakewood Ranch, was not yet available, Deputy Chief Paul Wren said in an interview with the Bradenton Herald.

East Manatee Fire Rescue did not report any injuries.

Due to the fire damage, the pavilion, which seats up to 100 people, is closed until further notice.

The State Fire Marshal is working with East Manatee Fire Rescue to determine the cause of the fire, according to Deputy Chief Paul Wren.
