A boat explosion injured 6 people in Longboat Key. FWC is investigating what happened

A boat exploded near Longboat Key, west of the New Pass bridge, in Sarasota County on Saturday, officials say.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the United States Coast Guard and Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue were the agencies that responded to the incident that happened around 4:45 p.m., according to an FWC statement.

Six people were aboard a 24-foot Yellowfin boat and were taken to a nearby hospital, the statement said.

FWC said Saturday’s incident is an active investigation and more information will be provided as it becomes available.

As of Monday, there are no additional details.
