Watch this Venice High alum clinch the College World Series game for Florida Gators
Michael Robertson was on the bench when the Florida Gators began Wednesday’s College World Series game against TCU, where they could clinch a spot in the championship series.
But with the game on the line, Robertson was there.
The Venice native entered the game in the ninth inning as a pinch-runner, scored the go-ahead run and stayed in the game as the Gators center fielder.
In the bottom of the ninth, the redshirt freshman made the game-ending catch against the right-center field wall, robbing TCU’s Brayden Taylor of extra bases.
“Any play like that in that situation is do-or-die, so if it’s in the air and it’s going to be close to the wall, I’m running through it,’‘ Robertson said, according to Gators.com. “I’m going to make the play. I think it traveled further than I initially thought it was going to, but I was hopeful I was going to have a play on it the whole time. I’m happy to have been able to make that play.”In the moment, I kind of almost blacked out. It looks alright on camera.”

The Gators await the winner of Wake Forest and LSU in the best-of-three championship series, which begins Saturday.
