3 dead after head-on crash between SUV and dump truck in Parrish, FHP says

Three Plant City residents were killed after crashing head-on with a dump truck in Parrish on Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a press release late Monday night.
The crash happened at the intersection of County Road 675, also known as Rutland Road, and Jim Davis Road. An SUV and dump truck were involved in the crash just before 2 p.m. Monday, according to an FHP release.
The three Plant City residents inside the SUV were a 71-year-old man, a 71-year-old woman, and an 80-year-old woman, while a 59-year-old Palmetto man drove the dump truck.
According to the release, the dump truck driver was traveling west on County Road 675, entering a curve. The SUV traveled east on the same road and entered the same curve.
The dump truck veered onto the north shoulder, crossing the road in front of the SUV and entering the south shoulder.
The driver of the SUV swerved to the right attempting to avoid the dump truck and entered the south shoulder. At this moment, the front of the dump truck hit the front of the SUV.
The 71-year-old man who was driving the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene along with his two passengers, the release said.
The 59-year-old dump truck driver was taken to Manatee Memorial.
The crash remains under investigation.
