Motorcycle accident slowed traffic on Manatee County bridge, Palmetto police say
A motorcycle accident on the DeSoto Bridge in Palmetto closed both northbound lanes on Tuesday morning, causing traffic delays, the Bradenton Police Department announced.
The crash happened before 9:20 a.m., police said. Both northbound lanes of the DeSoto Bridge remained closed for about an hour.
Around 10:25 a.m. police reopened one northbound lane on the bridge, but there were still severe traffic delays in the area, including the intersection of First Street West and Manatee Avenue.
By 1 p.m., police reopened access to both northbound lanes.
Palmetto Police Chief Scott Tyler told the Bradenton Herald on Tuesday afternoon that the accident involved a man on a motorcycle.
“A motorcyclist lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle,” Tyler said. “He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Blake for treatment.”
