Bradenton’s LaDazhia Williams won title with LSU. Where will she land in WNBA Draft?
The next chapter in LaDazhia Williams’ basketball career could get written Monday in New York City when the WNBA Draft takes place.
The Bradenton native, who was a three-time Herald girls basketball player of the year at Lakewood Ranch High, was a key contributor on LSU’s national championship team this season.
The Tigers defeated Iowa on April 2 to claim the program’s first national title.
Williams, who was a graduate student this season, saw her potential draft stock rise for her NCAA Tournament performance. The highlight was her 24-point performance against Utah in the Sweet 16.
Williams, a power forward, averaged 9.9 points per game, six rebounds per game and one assist per game in 2022-23. She’s one of three LSU players that declared for the WNBA Draft in the days following the national championship game.
ESPN’s latest mock draft projects the Phoenix Mercury to select Williams with the 29th overall pick. There are three rounds in the WNBA Draft. With 12 teams drafting, there are 36 total picks.
Williams played at South Carolina and Missouri before transferring to LSU for her final college season. She led Lakewood Ranch to a state runner-up finish, which is the best finish to date in Mustangs program history.
