Construction at Sarasota Bradenton airport will close sidewalk between parking, terminal
Due to construction activity, the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority is closing a sidewalk connecting the airport terminal with the shade/overflow parking lots.
The closure starts at 7 a.m. Thursday.
Shuttle bus service will be provided from the terminal building and the parking lots during this closure.
Alternative sidewalk access will be completed within a week to allow some pedestrian movement.
“The major terminal construction activities are beginning in earnest and will have various impacts on airport operations over the course of the next 18-24 months,” Rick Piccolo, the airport’s president and CEO, said in a news release.
“Our efforts will be to maintain passenger safety and convenience as much as possible while facilitating expeditious completion of the much-needed improvements,” he said.
Earlier this month, the airport authority approved a nearly $72 million contract for the construction of a ground boarding facility and expansion of the existing concourse.
“We ask passengers to please allow a little extra time if you plan to park your vehicle at SRQ. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Piccolo said.
In February, 393,807 passengers traveled through SRQ setting a record for the month. The previous record, 340,465, was set in February 2022.
