New Year’s Day 2023 falls on a Sunday.
That means government offices and some businesses around Bradenton will be closed Monday to mark the holiday.
Here’s what to know.
Federal, state and county holiday closures
Monday is a federal, state and county government holiday because New Year’s Day is on Sunday. That means:
- The post office is closed and mail will not be delivered.
- Government offices (federal, state, county and city) will be closed. Some services, such as Manatee County Tax Collector, will remain available online.
- Public schools are closed and public school students remain on winter break; they return Jan. 10.
The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ are closed.
Most banks are closed.
State and federal courts are closed.
Manatee County Public Libraries will be closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Garbage, yard waste and recycling collections will occur on their regularly scheduled days for Manatee County and City of Bradenton customers. However, the Lena Road Landfill will be closed on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
G.T. Bray Recreation Center will be closed Sunday; it will be open from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday and Monday.
MCAT will not offer fixed route or Handy Bus service on Sunday, New Year’s Day.
De Soto National Memorial will be closed Sunday.
What’s open?
- Manatee County parks, beaches and preserves will be open.
- Shopping malls, movie theaters and most retailers and restaurants will be open.
- Holiday light displays and other festive events will be happening over the long weekend around Bradenton and Sarasota.

The Mall at University Town Center: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday.
