Two dead in East Manatee crash that shut stretch of State Road 62, Florida Highway Patrol says
Two people are dead following a 2-vehicle crash that shutdown part of State Road 62 on Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The highway patrol provided an update on their investigation late Tuesday morning and identified one of the victims as a 30-year-old Bowling Green woman. She was a passenger in the second vehicle involved. The driver of that second 4-door car, a 35-year-old Bowling Green man, was injured badly.
Investigators have not yet notified their next of kin.
The driver of the first vehicle, who was also killed, has not yet been identified.
The crash, which happened around 5:15 p.m., blocked eastbound and westbound traffic on State Road 62, just east of Lake Parrish at the intersection of Saffold Road.
The first driver was headed east on SR 62 and crossed into the westbound lanes to pass other cars. The driver then crashed head on into the Bowling Green victims. The impact caused the first car to overturn and the second car to spin out, both into the eastbound shoulder.
Initially, only one person was reported dead by FHP spokesperson Lt. Greg Bueno on Monday evening.
According to the FHP Live Traffic Map, troopers arrived at the crash in the 23600 block of State Road 62 around 5:50 p.m.
An FHP investigation is ongoing, Bueno said.
