Lakewood Ranch hospital announces new $120 million, five-story tower and expansion
Lakewood Ranch Medical Center has announced plans to add a $120 million, five-story, 60-bed patient tower to the Lakewood Ranch campus.
“The significant population growth we’ve experienced since 2016, and projected growth during the next several years, are driving the need for this expansion,” hospital CEO Andy Guz said in a press release.
“We are looking forward to expanding our capacity so we can continue to provide the high-quality care that meets the medical needs of our community,” he said.
Construction of the 170,000-square-foot tower would be the first phase of a multi-phase plan for facility expansion over the next several years.
Pre-construction work is slated to begin in 2023, and the first phase is expected to be completed in 2025.
The first phase would add 60 patient beds and include expansion of key departments, including pharmacy, laboratory, education, pre-admission testing and food and nutrition services.
The tower would include shell space for an additional 60 patient beds, the ability to add two more floors, and expansion of other areas as the hospital continues to grow its services. The addition of patient beds and services would also result in the addition of approximately 100 new jobs.
The acute-care hospital, which opened in 2004, has 120 beds and provides an array of medical services ranging from cardiovascular, surgical and orthopedics to stroke, maternity and obstetrical care, intensive care and emergency services.
In 2019, the hospital completed a $28.5 million expansion, adding 28,000 square feet of new space. The expansion was the largest in the history of the hospital.
More than 17,000 square feet of space were added. One wing of the hospital, which had sat as an empty shell since the facility opened, was also completed.
Central to the 2019 expansion was the addition of an 8,010-square-foot surgical suite with two operating rooms.
Lakewood Ranch, with more than 50,000 residents, has grown rapidly in recent years, as has all of the Bradenton area.
