What’s Detroit pizza? Pizzano’s brings a taste of the Motor City to Anna Maria Island
Hello, Detroit.
Pizzano’s Pizza & Grinderz, a fast-casual restaurant, recently opened at 5318 Marina Dr. in Holmes Beach.
Although their eatery is new, brothers Sam and Tony Marhi have about three decades of experience as restaurateurs and are well acquainted with the Bradenton area before moving here.
“This has been a favorite vacation spot for my family for many years. We always hoped we would have the opportunity to bring our concept here,” Sam said.
Originally from Detroit, the brothers owned and operated restaurants in the Orlando area before moving to the Bradenton area. About a year ago, they opened their first Bradenton area restaurant at 5627 14th St. W.
One of their specialties is Detroit-style pizza, served on a square sheet tray. But they also offer all the traditional round pizzas as well.
“It’s a little different than New York style,” Sam said of Detroit-style pies.
The Pizzano’s concept emphasizes hospitality, freshly made dough and sauces, convenient hours, and an extensive menu. You can order a single slice of pizza any time of the day or a pizza large enough to feed 10.
“Every pizza is made to order, and every vegetable is chopped daily,” chef Jerimia Miller said.
The menu includes a variety of specialty pizzas — deluxe to meat lovers, Philly cheese steak, chicken bacon ranch, chicken cordon bleu – as well as wings, oven-baked grinders, pastas, salads and desserts.
The past week, Pizzano’s advertised a carryout special of one large cheese pizza with one topping for $12.99.
Pizzano’s is open 10 a.m. to midnight Monday though Thursday, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday.
The restaurant offers dining in, takeout, delivery and catering.
“We deliver all over the island,” Marhi said.
