How safe is your hospital? New rankings grade every hospital in the Bradenton area
Three Bradenton-area hospitals received passing grades for patient safety in a recent Leapfrog report.
Leapfrog is an independent national watchdog group that has assigned “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” ratings to general hospitals across the United States over the past decade. The grades are based on a hospital’s capacity to reduce medical mistakes and patient damage.
HCA Florida Blake Hospital in Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch Medical Center in Lakewood Ranch are the two local hospitals that received a B grade.
Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton got a C.
The grades are based on hospital performance measures, which include hospital performance statistics. They include the number of patients who suffer blood or urinary tract infections, surgical complications, falls and bedsores.
The grade also includes the number of qualified nurses and whether doctors in intensive care units have obtained specific training for that position.
No hospital in the Bradenton area received a grade lower than a C.
Sarasota Memorial Hospital and HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital, both in the nearby city of Sarasota, scored an “A.”
