Developer reveals the company bringing a new hospital, health complex to Parrish

HCA Florida Healthcare has purchased nearly 22 acres in the village center of Parrish’s North River Ranch for a 150-bed hospital with emergency room services and an intensive care unit as well as an acute treatment center.

The Bradenton Herald exclusively reported the plans for a Parrish hospital in February, but the name of the company was not revealed until today.

Neal Land & Neighborhoods, the developer of North River Ranch, the largest master planned community in Parrish, announced the land sale Monday and that HCA Florida Healthcare is the brand.

Nashville-based HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s largest healthcare companies, is also the parent company of Bradenton’s HCA Florida Blake Hospital, which until March was known as Blake Medical Center.

HCA Florida Healthcare plans 125,000 square feet of medical offices focused on preventive care on the northeast corner of Moccasin Wallow Road and Fort Hamer Road.

Manatee County commissioners unanimously approved plans for the six-story hospital in May. The planned 150 beds could be expanded at a later date with approval from the county commission. In addition to the hospital, an assisted living facility is expected to provide 326 beds.

“With all of the new homes and buildings going into the area and the need for improved infrastructure, which we are aware is in process, having medical facilities ‘North of the River’ are imperative to the health and safety of the community,” Jennifer Hamey, president of the Parrish Civic Association, wrote in an April 24 letter in support of hospital plans to the county commission.

North River Ranch by some estimates could eventually become home to 28,000 residents.

“We are seeing the excitement from residents on what this means for them and for the community,” John A. Neal, president of Neal Land & Neighborhoods, said in a press release.

The North River Ranch village center will also include fitness facilities, restaurants, entertainment and other retail businesses.

“Developing a health and wellness-focused center complements the active environment curated at North River Ranch,” Neal said. “The addition of a full-service medical center fills a safety and health-oriented void in northern Manatee County, especially since residents currently must drive 30 to 45 minutes or more to access an acute care facility. HCA Florida Healthcare at North River Ranch is another reason for families and active adults who live here to love where they live.”

New neighborhoods surrounding the village center of Parrish have made it one of the fastest growing areas of Manatee County, particularly along Moccasin Wallow Road and Buckeye Road.

State College of Florida has purchased 74 acres of vacant land at 11680 Erie Road for a planned campus with a on focus on nursing skills, public safety, teaching and general education classes.

BayCare Health System announced in July that it is also planning to open a hospital in Parrish on the northeast corner of Moccasin Wallow Road and Interstate 75 (by the Publix at Gateway Commons). The planned opening date for the BayCare hospital is 2025.

The last time a new hospital opened in Manatee County was in 2004 with the arrival of Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.
