Driver dies after being trapped in a burning Tesla after a crash in Manatee County, FHP says

One person died after being trapped inside a burning Tesla following a crash in Manatee County, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a press release.

The crash happened on Interstate 75 north of University Parkway, at 2:54 a.m., on Saturday.

According to FHP, the Tesla’s driver lost control of the car as it was traveling southbound on I-75, causing it to swerve onto the shoulder and into a ditch. The car then struck a tree and caught fire. The driver could not escape from the vehicle.

Manatee County EMS pronounced the driver dead on the scene.

The driver not yet been identified.

The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit continues to investigate this fatal traffic crash.
