One dead after two separate fires in Bradenton, officials say

Bradenton police are investigating the death of someone who died in an explosion in the The Fairways at Pinebrook condos on Wednesday afternoon.

At 12:49 p.m., two Bradenton Fire Department engines and an ambulance were dispatched to the 4400 block of Fairways Blvd. to a report of a structure fire, according to calls dispatched by Manatee County Department of Public Safety.

A flame was lit in a room where someone was being given oxygen — causing the explosion and fire that followed, the Bradenton Police Department announced on social media.

Police and the State Fire Marshal are now investigating the case.

Red Cross responded to the home and is providing others with who lived in the condo with assistance.

In a separate, unrelated structural fire at 6:17 p.m. that evening, crews found a fire in the bathroom of a second-story apartment unit at 4880 51st St. W.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire and then worked to stop water damage in the apartment below caused by the unit’s fire sprinkler system. Nobody was hurt.

Five residents were displaced from their homes and assisted with a place to stay by Red Cross.

The City of Bradenton Fire Department assessed the damage to the apartment complex at $35,000.

The fire department is still investigating what caused the incident.
