Music on Main in Lakewood Ranch

Music on Main brings family-friendly fun to the heart of Lakewood Ranch on the first Friday of every month.

Local cover band Frequency M will bring “cool tunes that everyone knows and loves” to Main Street on Friday, and a DJ will play top 100 hits.

Food vendors, beer trucks, booths and kids activities will line the street.

This month’s event will benefit Birds of Paradise Sanctuary.

Guests are welcome to bring chairs and dogs on short leashes.

Village of the Arts Art Walk & Birdrock birthday

The creatives of the Village of the Arts in Bradenton will open their businesses this weekend for a display of crafts, goods, healing arts, food, live music.

Whether you fancy folk art or fine art, creative cuisine, antiques, furniture, records, quilting or a psychic reading, Village of the Arts has something to offer most any taste.

Also during Art Walk, Adobe Graffiti Lounge, 1302 13th Ave. W., and surrounding business will host the 13th and 13th Art Market from 6-10 p.m. Friday and 4-10 p.m. Saturday.

Also this weekend, Birdrock Taco Shack in the Village will celebrate seven years of art and tacos in Bradenton with a day of local live music. Seven bands and artists are set to play, including blues and rock acts.

Bradenton Marauders last home series and fireworks

The Florida State League’s Bradenton Marauders will play ball at LECOM Park this week for the final home series of the season. The six-game series, Tuesday-Sunday, will match the Marauders against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels.

On Friday, the Marauders will host a Hispanic Heritage Celebration. Latin band Grupo Mango will play before the game, and the Marauders will take to the field as the Bradenton Barbanegras in celebration of Hispanic and Latin heritage. Friday is also the 2022 season’s final Paws & Claws event; well-behaved dogs are welcomed to LECOM Park. Kids can also run the bases after the game.

Saturday, the Marauders will host Fan Appreciation Night. A “Nine Innings of Winnings” game will offer chances to win prizes throughout the game. The evening will wrap up with the final post-game fireworks show of the season.

Labor Day bash at Fiorelli Winery & Vineyard

Fiorelli Winery & Vineyard in Bradenton will reopen for the season with a Labor Day celebration this Saturday.

The event is free to enter and will include live music, craft and food vendors, wine tastings and sales, family fun and lawn games.

Discount weekends at Mote Marine

Mote Aquarium is offering discount admission to Florida residents on weekends throughout September. Tickets must be purchased in advance online using the discount code “HALF.”

Mote’s resident creatures include aquatic reptiles, otters, sharks, colorful fish, manatees, sea turtles and more.

‘Flora Imaginaria’ at Selby Botanical Gardens

A summer exhibit at Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota invites visitors to explore “a spectacular bouquet of flower imagery drawn from many different genres of photography, produced over the past three decades.”

The indoor-outdoor exhibit features 70 prints by artists from around the world displayed in the gardens and in the Museum of Botany & the Arts.

“The photographs in the show highlight the beauty and diversity of flowers, which have long been appreciated aesthetically for their colors and forms, as well as for their decorative potential and symbolic power,” a preview says.

Bier Fest at Busch Gardens

Busch Gardens’ annual Bier Fest celebration is back. The late summer festival pairs over 70 craft beers and ciders with special food offerings throughout the theme park, plus live music from local bands.

Food and drink are available à la carte, or buy a sampler pass for the event starting at $35.

High-speed coasters and water rides offer another way to cool down.

The Jersey Tenors: Part II at Florida Studio Theatre: “Back with a new show, this opera/rock mash-up sensation blends iconic opera classics with Rock & Roll hits from artists like Queen, Journey, and Elton John, along with the songs from Jersey’s finest—Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and Bon Jovi,” a preview for this music review says.

Farmers’ markets

The Farmers’ Market at Lakewood Ranch welcomes more than 90 regional vendors to Waterside Place each Sunday. Offerings include produce, meat and seafood, prepared foods and breads, crafts, jewelry, plants and pet treats. Live music from a rotation of local musicians and yoga sessions are another regular feature at the market.

Oneco Farmers Market is open seven days a week. The permanent market boasts more than 100 vendors in one location, including meats and seafood, fresh produce, sweets and treats. There are also restaurants and arts and crafts vendors to check out, and the market frequently hosts free community events.

Sarasota Farmers Market brings vendors selling arts and crafts, goods and services, produce, food, plants and more to downtown Sarasota. There’s also live music to enjoy.

Newtown Sarasota Farmers Market offers local produce, fresh-baked goods and other items twice a week in the Newtown neighborhood. The market also hosts community gatherings including events for kids and food festivals.

Meadows Farmers Market: Started in Oct. 2021, the Meadows Farmers Market promises organic fruits and vegetables straight from local farmers. Other attractions include artisans, food vendors and live music. Events at the market include yoga, tai chi, wellness talks and holiday celebrations.

Red Barn Flea Market combines the best of a farmers market, a flea market and a food court in one stop. At Red Barn, you’ll find permanent storefronts, vendor booths, fresh produce, local food offerings, live entertainment and more.

Fun at the museum

The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature: Explore the past, present and future of the natural world with interactive displays and exhibits, stellar shows in the famed Planetarium, an indoor manatee habitat, the Mosaic Backyard Universe for kids and more at The Bishop in downtown Bradenton.

Florida Maritime Museum: Florida Maritime Museum documents the age-old relationship between Floridians and the water. Visitors will find marine life displays, historical photos and documents, revolving exhibits and a gift shop.

On the second and fourth Saturday of each month, the museum hosts a “Music on the Porch” outdoor jam session. From 2-4 p.m., local pickers and players come together to share tunes and singalongs with the crowd.

Masks are currently required inside museum buildings.

There’s also a revolving lineup of special exhibits to check out.

Sarasota Art Museum: Operated by Ringling College of Art and Design, the Sarasota Art Museum displays revolving exhibits of contemporary artwork.

The museum is housed in the former Sarasota High School building and offers 15,000 square feet of gallery space to showcase paint, sculpture, photography, furniture making, experimental art and more.

Events at the museum include curator and artist talks, live jazz every second Thursday of the month and free entry and family fun on the second Sunday of each month.

Visitors can also enjoy a gift shop and a bistro.
