Bradenton man killed in motorcycle wreck in Lakewood Ranch, Florida troopers say

A 20-year-old Bradenton man died when he was thrown from his motorcycle during a crash with a turning car on Wednesday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release. The driver of the car was seriously hurt.

The wreck happened around 10:50 a.m. on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, south of Gatewood Drive.

Troopers say the Bradenton man was riding his motorcycle north on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard when he entered a bicycle-only lane to pass slower traffic.

An 83-year-old Lakewood Ranch man driving a Subaru was in a driveway access along the boulevard. The Subaru driver then attempted to make a left turn onto Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. Traffic investigators say the turn was legal, but the motorcycle hit the left side of the car as it pulled out.

The Bradenton man was ejected from his motorcycle and landed in the roadway, troopers say.

Meanwhile, the Subaru rotated counterclockwise and rolled into the front fender of a Hyundai sedan that had stopped in the northbound travel lanes of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard after the initial crash.

The motorcycle rider died on the road, according to Manatee County EMS.

The Lakewood Ranch man was seriously injured, troopers say. A 25-year-old Bradenton woman who was driving the Hyundai was not hurt.

FHP’s homicide unit continued to investigate the crash on Wednesday afternoon.
