A new brewery with Midwest roots is opening in Sarasota this weekend
One of Indiana’s best beer brewing companies is coming to Sarasota.
The craft beer brand Sun King Brewery is opening a Sarasota location on 1215 Mango Ave. on Friday and will be celebrating their grand opening for two days.
Sun King Sarasota Brewery and Tap Room customers can sample beers, purchase pints and take home growlers, as well as purchase food from local food trucks 3 Sons BBQ on July 22 and Il Petraro on July 23.
The Sarasota branch will have 10 beers on tap, including year-round beers like Sunlight Cream Ale, Keller Haze and Orange Vanilla Sunlight Cream Ale, as well as Florida’s top selling seasonal and specialty beers such as Amber Has Two Moms and a rotating pastry stout.
The brewery won the Grand National Champion title for the second year in a row at the U.S. Open Beer Competition last week, winning 10 medals for different beers.
The Sarasota facility is designed to be family-friendly and will keep snacks from local vendors, board games and activities on site.
Clay Robinson, co-founder of Sun King Brewery, said he is thrilled to celebrate the opening of the Sarasota location and is moving to the area to manage it.
It will be the brand’s first branch outside of Indiana.
“We decided that it would be a good opportunity [to open a facility in Florida], as we are Sun King and Florida’s the Sunshine State,” Robinson said. “There are a lot of Hoosiers that live in the Bradenton/Sarasota area and many that travel to these locations.”
He said Sun King will regularly donate a portion of sales to Sarasota nonprofit organizations and is working with local organizations like the Humane Society of Sarasota, ALSO Youth and the Selby Foundation.
Sun King has six other locations in Indiana: Downtown Indy, Fishers, Carmel, Kokomo, Mishawaka and at the Indianapolis Airport.
The brand has been available on tap and in cans in Florida since 2017. Sun King also is evaluating options to increase distribution throughout additional areas in Florida.
