Florida firefighters rescue Cecil the donkey, who got stuck after a bridge collapse

A team of firefighters recently helped rescue a donkey named Cecil from being stuck on his rear end.

On April 30, Cecil was crossing a footbridge in Palmetto when the wood collapsed and he ended up hopelessly stuck in the mud. Neighbor Joanne Lindsay tried to pull him out with her tractor, but Cecil needed the help of professionals.

The Technical Rescue Team of seven firefighters and two trucks showed up to help, said North River Fire Battalion Chief J.D. Hadlock. “It took over an hour to get him out,” he said.

After getting Cecil safely out of the mud, the team helped him to his stall and rigged a support system as recommended by a veterinarian.

Cecil’s owners were very grateful, Hadlock said, and Cecil is reportedly doing well.
