Woman dies after three-car pileup on Anna Maria Island Bridge, FHP says

A three-car pile-up on Anna Maria Island Bridge last week has led to the death of a woman from Palmetto, Florida Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

It happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, on State Road 64, also known as Manatee Avenue, near the East Bay Drive intersection. The road is a main corridor to the island.

The first vehicle, an SUV driven by a 74-year-old man from Battle Creek, Michigan, stopped for congestion, then the SUV behind him, driven by a 17-year-old girl from Bradenton, stopped.

The third vehicle, a sedan driven by a 47-year-old woman from Palmetto, failed to stop and all three cars crashed into each other.

The woman driving the sedan was taken to Blake Medical Center in serious condition, and she was pronounced dead on Easter Sunday.

The crash is still under investigation.
