Manatee County to ‘aggressively’ sweep neighborhoods for property code violations

Starting this month, the Manatee County Code Enforcement office will will start deploying teams to “aggressively” target areas with a lot of property violations like overgrown yards or restricted vehicles, Manatee County Government said Tuesday in a press release.

Code Enforcement officers will conduct monthly sweeps throughout the year to identify areas that have “extensive areas of outdoor storage, trash, debris and inoperable vehicles.”

“The goal is to correct code violations and help our neighborhoods to stay strong,” District Four Commissioner Misty Servia said in a news release. “Our first sweep through Whitfield was a resounding success, with 97% compliance when working with the homeowners,”

“I expect we will see the same level of success in Oneco,” she added.

The sweeps started last month in the Whitfield area and will move to the Oneco area this week, the release said.

Other areas of the county are scheduled later in the year

  • Bayshore Gardens – April
  • Holiday Heights/Trailer Estates – May
  • East Samoset – June
  • West Samoset – July
  • West Bradenton – August
  • Palmetto – September
  • Palmetto/Ellenton – October
  • East County locations – TBD

As each area gets swept, residents will see multiple message boards and signs notifying them of the clean-up activities.

Solid Waste and Public Works employees will be a part of the sweep teams to remove debris and clear right of ways.

Code Enforcement sweep teams will also address restricted vehicles and overgrown properties violations.

Sweep teams will identify residents with these violations and work to get those properties into compliance.
