Planning a beach trip for spring break? Take note of these Bradenton weather warnings
Spring break in Manatee County comes with several weather warnings.
Forecasters expect severe thunderstorms, gusty winds, heavy rain, lightning and power outages from Friday night through Saturday.
Then on Saturday night, temperatures will drop to around 40 in the Bradenton area.
And that’s not all: High surf and rip current advisories have been issued for Manatee County from Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon.
Large breaking waves reaching four to six feet high are making water conditions on Bradenton beaches unsafe for swimmers and surfers, the National Weather Service in Tampa said.
Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore and into deep water, which can increase their risk of downing. If you go into the water, swim near a lifeguard.
“Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, “ NWS said.
Other coastal counties are also under the same advisories, including Pinellas, Hillsborough, Sarasota, Charlotte, and Lee.
Tips for swimmers caught in a rip current
- Relax and float
- Face the shoreline and call for help
- Don’t swim against the current
- Swim in the direction of the shoreline
