Road under I-75 interchange in Ellenton to close permanently for new bridge construction
The Florida Department of Transportation is permanently closing 19th Street East underneath the Interstate 75 overpass on Monday, March 7, as part of the rebuilding of the interchange at U.S. 301.
The closing is required to build two new bridges over the Manatee River and for the final configuration of the new interchange.
As a result of the shutdown, 19th Street west of I-75 will terminate at a cul-de-sac at I-75. East of I-75, 19th Street Street East will merge into 18th Street East.
The interchange project starts just north of Ellenton Premium Outlets and extends south to the interchange with State Road 64.
Improvements
Improvements include:
▪ Widening I-75 from the Manatee River to S.R. 64 with an auxiliary lane in each direction
▪ Reconstructing the I-75 interchange at U.S. 301 from a partial cloverleaf interchange to a tight diamond configuration
▪ Constructing two new bridges over the Manatee River to serve as a northbound exit ramp and a southbound entrance ramp to U.S. 301.
The project, budgeted for $145 million, is planned for a mid-2025 completion.
