Sarasota bicyclist, 65, dead after hit-and-run crash on University Parkway

A man died while riding his bicycle across University Parkway in Sarasota after being hit by a vehicle that left the scene, Florida Highway Patrol said Saturday in a news release.

The crash took place at 8:20 p.m. Friday on North Tuttle Avenue.

A 65-year-old man from Sarasota was riding his bicycle south on North Tuttle Avenue, crossing University Parkway, when a vehicle traveling west on University in the center lane hit him.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Florida Highway Patrol said. The driver of the vehicle fled after the crash.

FHP has no information on the vehicle that hit the man and is asking for anyone with information to contact them at 239-938-1800 or Manatee County Crime Stoppers at 866-634-8477.

The crash is still under investigation, FHP said.
