Parrish motorcyclist dies, 1 critically injured after early morning crash on US 41
A motorcyclist was killed and one critically injured after a car hit two motorcycles turning onto Old US Highway 41 from a parking lot, Florida Highway Patrol said Saturday in a news release.
The crash happened at 2:20 a.m Saturday at 4511 Old US Highway 41, which is the address of a bar called Peggy’s Corral.
A 52-year-old man and 48-year-old woman, both from Parrish, were on the first motorcycle to turn out of the parking lot into the southbound lanes, followed by a 55-year-old man from Ellenton on another motorcycle.
A 22-year-old woman from Palmetto was driving a 2013 Hyundai sedan in the southbound lanes.
She sideswiped the Ellenton man’s motorcycle and hit the rear of the other motorcycle, FHP said, causing it to rotate and come to rest on its side in the highway.
The Parrish man was killed and the woman critically injured, and both the Ellenton man and sedan driver were uninjured.
In exiting the parking lot, FHP said, the motorcycles “failed to yield to oncoming US 41 traffic.”
The crash is still under investigation, FHP said.
