Drivers should detour as more lane closures coming to SR 70 for water line repairs
After a water line broke underground, all westbound lanes of State Road 70 west near Lockwood Ridge Road will close starting Monday and drivers will need to detour.
Originally, the county announced that one center lane would be closed through the Thanksgiving weekend so repairs could be made.
However, in an update on Friday afternoon, Manatee County Government Public Works tweeted that all westbound lanes of SR 70 — directly west of Lockwood Ridge Road/45th Street East — will be closed starting early Monday to accommodate repairs.
Two detours include going north to 44th Avenue or south to 63rd Avenue East, both of which run parallel to SR 70.
The Florida Department of Transportation advises drivers to follow the detour signs around the heavily trafficked area or to choose an alternate route, using either 63rd Avenue East or 44th Avenue East, which parallel S.R. 70.
