From the editor: Happy Thanksgiving and here’s what’s happening at the Bradenton Herald
Hello to Bradenton and all of Manatee County!
This Thanksgiving week marks the first month I’ve been working for you, and I want to give everyone an update on what’s happening with the Herald.
First and foremost, thank you for being a subscriber, for reading our stories and viewing our photos and videos either in the print edition, at bradenton.com, in your email inbox or on social media (https://www.facebook.com/BradentonHeraldNews or Twitter and Instagram: @bradentonherald).
Thank you for believing that local news is important to the fabric of our community and to our democracy.
I will do my best to help ensure it stays that way in the years to come. But as a newcomer to the Suncoast, you are the experts here.
If there’s something we could be doing better journalistically, or a topic that you think needs coverage, please let me know by either sending an email to lwalck@bradenton.com or leaving a voicemail at 941-745-7003. If there’s something you think we should be doing better in another department, such as delivery or customer service, I will forward your comments to the person who can respond the quickest.
I also want to let readers know that Letters to the Editor is not going away. There have been some technical difficulties, but going forward you should be able to send one in using the form on our website: https://www.bradenton.com/opinion/letters-to-the-editor/submit-letter/.
You also can navigate there from the homepage by going to the menu in the top left corner (icon with three horizontal lines), then Contact Us, then in the text at the top is a line that says “Submit a Letter to the Editor here.”
I’ll also occasionally accept op-eds, about local issues only, that are 500 words or fewer and written by a local organization, official, expert, etc.
I’ve lived on the Gulf Coast for most of my life, and I very much look forward to seeing a different view of the Gulf of Mexico. Just this week, I’ve gotten final approval to move into a home in Lakewood Ranch in mid-December.
But I hope to get to know all parts of the area, from Parrish to Palmetto to Bradenton, Ellenton and the county, to Anna Maria Island and the other waterfront communities.
In the meantime, I have been working remotely and getting to know the reporting team and the internal workings of the paper.
But I can’t wait to get out into the community and start meeting folks face to face as soon as possible, so please let me know of events or opportunities to say hello, starting after mid-December but especially in the new year.
Until then, here’s hoping your Thanksgiving weekend is blessed and bountiful.
