Bicyclist hit, killed by car in Bradenton and criminal charges pending, FHP says
The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal car wreck from early Wednesday morning involving a 54-year-old Bradenton man, who was driving an SUV, and a 63-year-old Sarasota man, who was riding a bicycle.
Criminal charges are pending the completion of the crash investigation, FHP said.
The SUV driver was heading southbound on the inside lane of U.S. 41 near the intersection of 32nd Ave. West. The bicyclist was also in the same lane near the same intersection ahead of the SUV, when the front left of the vehicle hit the rear of the bicycle.
Following impact, the bicyclist overturned, slid onto U.S. 41’s southbound inside lane and rolled onto the hood and windshield of the SUV before coming to rest within the southbound travel lane of U.S. 41, FHP said.
Manatee County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene.
