Lakewood Ranch bicyclist in serious condition after hitting truck, highway patrol says
A Lakewood Ranch man was seriously injured when bicycling Friday morning, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The 77-year-old, who was wearing a helmet, was cycling north on Dog Kennel Road north of Fruitville Road in east Sarasota County, when he collided with the rear of a parked pickup truck parked in the bicycle lane, the FHP report said.
The cyclist was transported to an area hospital in serious condition, FHP said.
No age or city were given for the pickup truck’s driver in the FHP report.
According to Florida statute 316.1945, it is illegal to park on a bicycle path unless when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic.
