Collect on $1 million? Sarasota County man wins big on Monopoly-themed Florida Lottery game

A lucky Sarasota County man is nearly $1 million richer after he snagged the last top prize on a Monopoly-themed Florida Lottery scratch-off game.

David Reichel, 62, of North Port, bought the winning ticket at a Circle K gas station at 6220 Marlympia Way, Punta Gorda.

Reichel purchased the $5 “Monopoly Bonus Spectacular” scratch-off. The game launched in July 2020 with eight top prizes of $1 million. Odds of winning anything on the game are 1-in-3.96, according to the Florida Lottery, while odds of winning top prize were 1-in-4,797,135. With his winning ticket, Reichel claimed the last top prize.

Reichel chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump sum payment of $815,000, according to the Florida Lottery. The Circle K location is slated to receive a $2,000 commission for selling the ticket.

Florida Lottery games and scratch-offs continue to fund the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund and the Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
