Myakka City man on a motorcycle killed in crash involving Amazon delivery van

A 41-year-old Myakka City man is dead after a crash involving a van delivering Amazon packages, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The victim, who was wearing a helmet, was headed south on a motorcycle on MJ Road approaching Clay Gully Road at 3:46 p.m. Sunday, while the delivery van was headed north on MJ Road. The van turned left into a driveway in the 4400 block of MJ Road, crossing into the motorcycle’s path, resulting in the motorcycle crashing into the right side of the van.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

“At this point it looks there won’t be criminal charges, possibly a citation,” FHP trooper Kenneth Watson said. “That could always change.”

The van was a Hertz van contracted by Amazon and was being used to deliver packages, Watson confirmed. The 32-year-old Amazon driver was not injured.
