Manatee school bus, car sideswipe each other in Bradenton, resulting in 1 minor injury

A Manatee County school bus was involved in an accident Monday morning at a Bradenton apartment complex, but only one minor injury resulted, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers confirmed that 13 school children were onboard the bus at the time of the collision with another vehicle.

The accident happened around 9:18 a.m. in the Royal Palm Terrace Apartments at 5030 26th St. E., Bradenton.

Troopers report that the bus was traveling west in the apartment complex and a sedan was traveling east. When the vehicles passed one another, their left sides collided.

The bus was transporting students to Martha B. King Middle School in Bradenton, school district spokesman Michael Barber confirmed later on Monday.

After the collision, a school district safety officer checked students for injuries, according to Barber, and one student reported an injured elbow. EMS first-responders were called to assist that student before the crash scene was cleared.

The driver of the school bus, a 33-year-old Sarasota man, was not injured, according to FHP.

The occupants of the sedan, a 28-year-old Sarasota man and a 23-year-old Lake Placid woman, also were uninjured.
