Man in motorized scooter killed in crash on State Road 64 in Bradenton, police say
A man driving a mobility scooter was hit and killed Thursday afternoon while trying to drive across State Road 64 East in Bradenton, police said.
About 1:30 p.m., the man, whose name was not immediately released, tried to drive across the busy highway near 52nd Street East. He was not using a designated crosswalk, police Sgt. Sean O’Leary said.
“He was struck by an approaching westbound vehicle in what we would call the outside lane,” O’Leary said. “As of now, there’s no charges.”
The crash briefly closed both westbound lanes of State Road 64. Cars soon crept down the road after one lane reopened, and traffic returned to normal by 3:30 p.m. An investigation was ongoing as of Thursday afternoon.
