Bishop Museum in Bradenton offers a way for some to visit for free
If you’ve wanted to visit the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature but haven’t been able to afford it, you may be eligible to visit for free.
The museum announced on Tuesday it will be taking part in an Institute of Museum and Library Services initiative that encourages eligible families to visit museums for free, or at a reduced rate to build museum-going habits.
Essentially, if you are already receiving benefits such as SNAP, WIC or other EBT assistance, you are eligible for free admission to the museum, special exhibitions, the Planetarium and the Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat.
The “Museums for All,” initiative is funded by several foundations that supply the museum’s educational programs.
“Joining this program helps us to fulfill a vital part of our mission: Welcoming as many in our community as possible for discovery and learning,” said Brynne Anne Besio, Bishop’s CEO.
“Thanks to generous foundations and donors, we have long been able to offer low-cost programming to widen access to our educational and entertaining exhibitions and programs,” she said. “Now, through Museums for All and continued foundation support, we’re able to reach even more families throughout our communities and be a resource for them.”
Besio said it’s especially critical for the museum during these trying times, “to be immersed in their children’s education.”
