Take a first look at Manatee’s newest library. The county wants to hear your thoughts

Preliminary designs for the new East County Library are in, and the next steps involve feedback from the community.

Manatee County government staff are looking for input from residents about what amenities and features should be prioritized as part of the new $15.2 million library that’s meant to serve the Lakewood Ranch area.

In a five-minute video released Tuesday afternoon, the county offered a first look at concept drawings and the floor plan for the two-story, 50,000-square-foot facility, which features a rooftop terrace, dedicated youth areas, outdoor space and a multi-purpose meeting area.

The East County Library will be built on a 2-acre site just north of the Premier Sports Campus, with an entrance off of Rangeland Parkway. The design process is expected to be completed in early 2021.

Residents are asked to respond to a brief survey at MyManatee.org/EastCountyLibrary to determine whether the current design satisfies meeting space, reading area and technological requirements. Survey responses will be accepted until Aug. 7, according to a press release.
