Toddler drowns in a pond behind family’s home in Palmetto, sheriff’s office says 

A 2-year-old boy drowned in a pond located behind his family’s home in Palmetto on Thursday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Family members discovered the boy floating in the water around 1:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office said. He was unresponsive as they removed him from the pond.

Emergency responders arrived at the home on Founders Circle shortly after and began performing CPR. The boy was pronounced deceased after approximately 20 minutes of resuscitation efforts.

Family members said that they were doing things around their home when they lost track of the child, according to the sheriff’s office.
