Bicyclist killed in Bradenton crash, troopers say

A 61-year old Bradenton man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle Saturday morning while riding his bicycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident took place just before 10 a.m. at U.S. 19 and 61st Street East in Palmetto.

According to the FHP, the unidentified man was stopped in the westbound direction of 61st Street East at the intersection with a stop sign. Troopers say a 48-year-old Bradenton man was driving north on U.S. 19 approaching the intersection when the bicyclist traveled into the path of the vehicle.

Troopers noted the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet and the crash remains under investigation.
