At least one dead after traffic accident in Manatee County, FHP says

One person has died after a traffic accident in the Palmetto-Ellenton area of Manatee County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP reports that a 67-year-old Sarasota man was killed in the accident and two Bradenton men were hospitalized in serious condition.

According to the crash report, the still unidentified Sarasota man drove into the path of a semi-truck being driven by a 37-year-old Bradenton man with a 24-year-old passenger.

The accident occurred at the intersection of 36th Avenue East and 21st Street Court East on Wednesday afternoon.

Troopers were dispatched to the scene shortly after 4 p.m. and report that the semi-truck unsuccessfully attempted to swerve out of the way of the Sarasota man’s vehicle.

The two vehicles made contact and ended up in a nearby ditch and the Sarasota man’s car overturned during the crash.

The accident caused a complete roadblock at the intersection, according to FHP and remains under investigation.
