Wastewater tank issues create ‘odor’ in Southwest Bradenton. A fix is coming

Equipment malfunctions have caused a strong stench in Southwest Bradenton, but a fix is already on the way, according to the Manatee County Utilities Department.

Technical problems at the 66th Street Wastewater Treatment Facility have caused an “odor issue,” in the area for several days. The smell came from the two of the facility’s sludge holding tanks, said Utilities Department spokeswoman Amy Pilson.

“One tank was down as the jet air nozzles were plugged, and another tank does not have air as a motor is down on its air blower.”

One of those tanks is already back online and chemical treatment should resolve the second one “by next week,” Pilson said.

“The odor itself should be getting better within a couple days,” she said.
