Palmetto man dies after getting hit by a pickup truck while riding motorcycle

A Palmetto man has died at the hospital two days after he was hit by a pickup truck while riding a motorcycle in Manatee County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 11:55 p.m. Friday at the intersection of U.S. 41 and 21st Street East in Palmetto.

Justin Mallett, 38, was traveling northbound on U.S. 41 on a Honda motorcycle.

A 60-year-old Palmetto man in a Toyota Sequoia pickup was traveling eastbound on 21st Street East. The driver violated Mallett’s right-of-way as he crossed U.S. 41, troopers say.

The front of the pickup hit the front of the motorcycle, and Mallett was thrown from the bike.

Mallett was transported to a local hospital for care, where he died Sunday, according to FHP.

Mallett was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the pickup was uninjured, according to FHP. He was charged with violation of right of way at a stop sign.
