Fireworks will cap off Bradenton boat races. Here is where you — and can’t — watch the show

Nothing closes out a full day of fun and action-packed entertainment at the Bradenton Area River Regatta like the fireworks show from Zambelli International Fireworks.

There are plenty of spots from which to watch the sixth annual regatta’s grand finale on Feb. 8, but there are also some that are either off limits or require some planning ahead.

Like last year, the Green Bridge will remain open to pedestrian traffic for the fireworks and is a great spot to see the show. Along the banks of the river, both in Palmetto from Riverside Drive and the Riverwalk in Bradenton also are ideal locations.

There are some new opportunities this year with the 2020 regatta taking place for the first time since the opening of the Oak & Stone atop the new Spring Hill Suites at 102 Old Main St.

The rooftop bar is sure to draw a crowd since it offers quite the view of the overall event, but General Manager Chris Waldron said come early if you want the opportunity.

“We don’t take reservations, so it’s first come, first serve,” Waldron said. “I’m sure we’ll be at capacity throughout most of the day and people are welcome to stay as long as they want as long they are still being served. This is our first time being open for the regatta, but our friends and neighbors told me we need to be ready.”

Waldron said Oak & Stone will, for the most part, operate as “business as usual,” with a happy hour from 2-6 p.m. Specials will include 25 percent off the beer wall, $2 off pizzas, $4 wines and other specials. There will likely be additional specials on the deck to make things easier for customers, he said.

Pier 22, at 1200 First Ave. W., advises reservations for the big day by calling 941-748-8087, If you can get a seat, Pier 22 offers a spectacular viewing opportunity as well.

The restaurant opens at 10:30 a.m. and will offer a Regatta Raceday Beer Garden throughout the day. World Champion flyboarder Kristen “The Destroyer” Smoyer returns to put on a special show for Pier 22 guests prior to the fireworks finale, which begins around 6:45 p.m.

The Riverhouse Waterfront Restaurant in Palmetto is another ideal spot located at 995 Riverside Drive. Call 941-729-0616 for more information.

Where you wont’ be able to watch the fireworks from is the new City Centre parking garage located just south of Bradenton City Hall.

City officials are citing public safety concerns for prohibiting people from “loitering” atop the garage.

“Parking on the rooftop is permitted but loitering on the roof to watch the fireworks is not permitted, nor is the use of alcohol,” said Jeannie Roberts, communications coordinator for the city.

Roberts noted that the rooftop will be monitored by Bradenton police.
