Sarasota teen killed in Manatee County crash, troopers say

A Sarasota teenager was killed early Wednesday morning while driving in the area of University Parkway and Shade Avenue in Manatee County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the accident that killed the 17-year-old Cameron James Moon occurred around 12:40 a.m.

Moon, driving a 2019 Nissan Rogue, was traveling westbound on University Parkway and for unknown reasons made contact with a concrete curbed median as he was approaching Shade Avenue.

Troopers say the contact with the median caused Moon to lose control and the teen crashed into an oak tree.

The vehicle didn’t stop there, as it rotated and struck another tree within the median. The collision was forceful enough to split the vehicle in two and Moon was ejected from the car.

The teenager died on the scene and the crash remains under investigation, according to the FHP.
