Inmate died in his cell at Sarasota County jail, cops say. An investigation is underway

An investigation is underway after the death of an inmate at the Sarasota County jail, according to Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

Kurt Jacobsen, 46, was discovered unresponsive in his cell just before 4 a.m. Sunday.

Deputies attempted lifesaving efforts, including CPR, but they were unsuccessful, the sheriff’s office said.

Emergency personnel declared Jacobsen dead at 4:14 a.m.

The sheriff’s office said that Jacobsen’s death appears to be self-inflicted.

An official cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office.

Jacobsen had been held at the facility since December 2019, when he was booked into the jail by Sarasota Police Department on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
