Bradenton man wins $2 million doing a crossword puzzle. The scratch-off kind

Have you ever wished that you could get paid for doing crossword puzzles?

A Bradenton man is living that dream after he recently won top prize in the Florida Lottery’s “$2,000,000 Cashword” scratch-off game.

Richard Walker, 60, bought the $10 ticket from the Winn-Dixie grocery store at 1010 53rd Ave. E., Bradenton, according to the Florida Lottery.

Walker’s odds of winning something were one-in-3.38. His odds of winning top prize: one-in-2,616,000.

The ticket beat the odds and yielded a $2 million prize.

Walker chose to receive the winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $1,475 million, according to the Florida Lottery.

A $4,000 bonus commission will be paid out to the Winn-Dixie for selling the winning ticket.

The “Cashword” game was launched in late 2017. After Walker’s win, seven of 10 top prizes remain.

Scratch-off games generated more than $871 million for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund in the Florida Lottery’s 2017-2018 fiscal year, the organization says, and comprised approximately 69 percent of ticket sales.
