Here’s how you can celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Manatee County

Jan. 20 may be the official day to recognize the achievements of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr., but all the fun will take place on Saturday, Jan. 18.

Palmetto will host the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The planned route is to begin south on Second Avenue West, west on 10th Street West, north on Eighth Avenue West and east along 17th Street West for anyone wanting to set up a spot to watch.

Following the parade, gather up your lawn chairs and blankets and head to Lincoln Park at 715 Fourth St. W. for the annual Multicultural Festival, which kicks off around 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The festival, sponsored by the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency, is free to the public.

Headlining the entertainment is R&B sensation Ginuwine.

The festival includes plenty of food options and a kids’ fun zone.

Area events on Jan. 20 include:

MLK Dream Big Family Fun Day at Tropicana Field from 2-8 p.m.

The 34th Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Big Parade in downtown St. Pete from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The 2020 Sarasota MLK Memorial Breakfast at the Robert L. Taylor Community Center beginning at 7 a.m. A $25 admission fee is required. Ticket information can be obtained by calling 941-356-3200.
