Live in this part of Manatee County? Boil your water, officials say
Scheduled water main work within some Manatee County neighborhoods has led public works officials to issue a precautionary boil-water notice following what will be a four-hour shutoff of water service beginning Monday morning.
The impacted areas are households along 43rd Street West, from Ninth Avenue West south to 17th Avenue West.
Work is scheduled to begin at about 10 a.m. Jan. 13 and last until around 2 p.m. The boil-water notice will remain in effect for up to 48 hours after service is restored for any water used for drinking or cooking. The notice could be extended depending on a bacterial testing.
Water should be boiled for up to 1 minute, officials said.
“Regulations require that two consecutive samples be collected for bacteriological quality following the water being shut off,” J.R. Lee, of Manatee County utilities water maintenance said in a prepared statement Thursday morning. “In order to restore full service as soon as possible, the Department of Health allows rescission of the precautionary boil-water notice if the first sample is bacteriological acceptable and the second sample meets certain general water quality standards.”
However, Lee said, if the second sample is not acceptable, the boil-water notice will be reissued, requiring two more consecutive rounds of testing.
To ask questions, call 941-792-8811, ext. 5216, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Manatee County will issue an all clear when testing shows no concerns.
