Betsy Benac to lead Manatee County Commission in 2020

Heading into 2020, Betsy Benac will serve as the chairman of the Manatee Board of County Commissioners.

The board voted Tuesday morning to elect new officers to serve on various boards, including the Port Authority and the Tourist Development Council.

“I’m honored to have the support of my fellow commissioners to serve as chair and I look forward to a new year of tackling the challenges of our growing community,” said Benac.

Board members voted to elect Commissioner Priscilla Whisenant Trace as the chairman of the Port Authority. In recent months, she has been a strong advocate for industrial development and jobs in that part of the county.

Commissioner Misty Servia will serve as the chairman of the Tourist Development Council, with Commissioner Carol Whitmore serving as an alternate in case Servia can’t attend a meeting.

Whitmore will also serve as first vice chair of the Board of County Commissioners. Servia will serve as second vice chair and Commissioner Reggie Bellamy will serve as the third vice chair.

Bellamy is set to serve as the first vice chair of the Port Authority. Servia will be second vice chair and Commissioner Stephen Jonsson, who served as the Board of County Commissioners chairman in 2019, will serve as third vice chair of the Port Authority.
