Bicyclist killed in Bradenton crash

A Bradenton man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash that shut down a major Bradenton intersection, according to officials.

William J. Simpson II, 37, of Bradenton was struck by an oncoming vehicle when he entered the crosswalk at the intersection of 301 Boulevard East and First Street.

Simpson was pronounced dead at Blake Medical Center. Troopers released the his identity Wednesday.

The driver of the Nissan Altima that struck Simpson was uninjured.

The crash was reported at 3:56 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 and 301 Boulevard East, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
