Vehicle crashes into empty storefront behind Wawa store in Bradenton

A vehicle crashed into an empty storefront off of 26th Street West in Bradenton on Thursday afternoon, according to Manatee County Emergency Medical Services.

The agency originally reported that the accident occurred at the Wawa gas station at 2509 Cortez Road W., but later updated the address to 2401 Cortez Rd. W. The empty storefront is the former location of a Sweetbay Supermarket that closed in March 2014.

EMS reported the accident at 3:34 p.m, and multiple units responded to the scene.

A black Ford Explorer with significant front-end damage was parked in the empty lot of the storefront. A witness stated that the driver of the vehicle had been taken into custody.

There was no sign of damage to the empty building.
