Semi-truck dangled from bridge in Manatee County; roadway has reopened

Multiple crashes reported on Interstate 75 in Manatee County caused traffic delays early Friday morning, including a semi truck dangling off a bridge over the Manatee River.

A semi-truck was partially dangling from the Trooper J.D. Young Bridge on northbound Interstate 75 at mile marker 224 for about two hours, according to FHP. Florida Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed the cab of the semi truck hanging over the bridge just before 7:30 a.m., blocking all northbound lanes of the highway.

The driver was able to get out safely, according to FHP. Crews cleared the roadway by 9:30 a.m.

Several other crashes along Interstate 75 have also slowed traffic. As of 9:30 a.m. Florida Highway Patrol traffic maps showed three other crashes on the interstate between University Parkway and Ellenton on Friday morning.

Crashes were reported in the northbound lanes at mile markers 220 and 215 and in southbound lanes at mile marker 216.

The Florida 511 live traffic map showed delays on I-75 from University Parkway to U.S. 301 in Ellenton.

Earlier Friday morning

Two lanes of I-75 at mile marker 216 near State Road 70 were blocked after a crash, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The crash was reported around 5:18 a.m. and the roadway was clear by 6:50 a.m.

Live traffic maps showed delays in the area, with traffic backed up beyond State Road 64 at 6:22 a.m., according to Florida 511. The road has since been reopened.
